The last post I published was a link to Bass Player Live’s “Jamerson Appreciation Clinic.”
In that clinic Allan Slutsky (Dr Licks) talks about Jamerson having a different ‘persona’ for different artists. And really laying it out on the 4 Tops stuff. And they talk about a track called 7 Rooms Of Gloom and play it.
Now I’ve heard that track a bazillion times…and never focused on the bass line. And man, it’s incredible. So here it is….followed by a bunch of Jamerson Lines with the Four Tops/
1. 7 Rooms Of Gloom
2. I’m In A Different World
This is one of my favourite (def. top 10!) all time Jamerson performances. Incredible line.
3. Standing In The Shadows Of Love
Here’s the isolated bass line for Standing In The Shadows Of Love…dig it, it’s great.
Here’s one of Jamerson’s best performances….on Bernadette. You can get a nice mixed down track without much of the lead vocal on the soundtrack to the Funk Brothers movie….but the lead vocal is also incredible. What I’d love to hear is a remix of the lead vocal and Jamerson….man that WOULD be aweseome!
5. Reach Out I’ll Be There
Reach Out is another definitive Jamerson performance….love the contrast between the verse and the driving 8th notes leading to the riff…put your headphones on and enjoy it!
