80-20 Groove 2 has a mid 60s Motown feel to it and you can use it in the following ways:

  • as a short note sight reading etude
  • as a short but fun groove to learn and play
  • to analyze and see what devices I’ve used and if there are devices you like and want to use yourself, then isolate them and take them to your practice space
  • because there is no notes that are played on beat 2 throughout (and also no notes played on beat 1) this is a great test of your time if you play this along with a harmonic metronome that is beating on beats 2 and 4 only

  2. Speaking of devices, a lot jumps out, anticipation, 8-5-R in bar one that can be raked, chromatic approach to bar 2 etc. I like it all.
