Copy the groove out….and edit the beats that you don’t like. See what you can come up with that YOU like. If you keep doing this with bass lines – these grooves, sections from bass playrs you like, etc – over time you should start to see two patterns: (i) things you don’t like; (ii) things you do like.
Once you’ve identified those patterns, if you practice more of the things you do like and less of the things you don’t like, you’ll be well on the way to creating “YOUR” sound.
