Here’s the main sections of the song Along Comes Mary by The Association for you to check out – interesting early rock style bass line. The main sections are filmed at two tempo levels – performance tempo and performance tempo minus approx 15 BPM – and I’ve edited the videos with picure and picture. As always, use your EARS to hear what’s going on, especially with the slowed down versions. If you’ve taken one of my Challenges or are on the 80-20 Program, have a listen and see if you can hear what devices are being used

Interesting line. Wiki suggests Jerry Scheff was the bassist, although I know Joe Osborn played on some of their tunes.
Hey Ian – am not sure who played it. Good line though. My memory tells me that I think it was Jerry Scheff.
This is really great for me Paul. It’s always been song I’ve loved, and this is starting to show me how all those devices fit together in a real song
Ken – the devices are in every song with a “song based” bass line (so not a soloing or melody type line). Once you know the different devices and modifying devices then you will find them everywhere.
An old classic, Paul. There is more maturity in this line than the typical early 60’s stuff. Nice to see it broken down to where it makes sense.
