Beginners Songs – Wild Thing (members only tutorial)

May 9, 2019 by Paul Wolfe

Wild Thing is a relatively easy song for beginers – there are 8 parts to learn (though you could get by with learning less sections and eliminating some of the variation in the original line).

I class this as a Level 3/4 bass line (mainly because of the placement of the second note in each bar plus the 8th notes). (The scale I use is 1 to 10 – a Level 1 bass line might be a predominantly half note ballad kind of line like Imagine and a Level 10 line would be an uptempo 8th note based line like I Saw Her Standing There or Shake A Tailfeather).

Here are the 8 sections:

    Hi Paul!

I have been following your postings for awhile and I appreciate Your way to teach the playing. As far as I understand, the main idea is something like “keep it simple and understand that the bass is the base element in a band, not a main solo instrument”.

    Keep up the Good work!
