Great, is that setting your using precision with flat wounds, with compression?

      Hi Fred

That’s not me at all – that’s Tiran Porter’s original bass line from the original recording. It sounds like flats with a pick to me.

    Paul,
You’re a big help to me. I’m a guitar player trying to learn to play the bass so these are very helpful to me. It let’s me concentrate on just what’s happening on the bass without the other musical interferences. Of course it’s helpful to see the fingering too, but perhaps this helps train the ear to find the notes on the fretboard instead of using my eyes. Love all the videos you’ve posted too. Thanks for taking the time to teach me all those great songs!

What’s missing is the bass context in the song. I use an amazing app on my iphone called Anytune Pro+. If you increase the pitch by 12 or 24 semitones you can hear the bass clearly with the rest of the instrument mix in the background. And that’s not all it can do! I now practice anywhere using my iphone with a Griffin Technology lead and earphones (and bass of course!).

      Hi Mel

If you know the song you’ll quickly be able to tell where you are in the song. If you look closely you’ll see that the Isolated Bass file is being played via Anytune. (And I agree – it is a great app indeed!)

Paul, I like the isolated bass lines. I prefer the straight bass lesson. But, it’s a great addendum to that. It allows to hear and appreciate how just the bass sounds with out the add’l instrumentation. Would you ever consider doing a lesson featuring Grand Funk Railroad? i.e. I’m your Captain. Thank you for all that you do. You are my favorite “On line” bass instructor.

      Hi David

I transcibed I’m Your Captain a long time ago….don’t think it will ever make it to be a video lesson though I’m afriad!
