Jerry Jemmott – Bass Guitar – King Curtis – Memphis Soul Stew

Here’s an awesome live clip of King Curtis and Memphis Soul Stew.? The bass guitar player is the legendary Jerry Jemmott and he takes the groove further out than on the classic ‘Live At The Filmore’ recordings.

My favourite line: now we need a pound of fatback drums!? Awesome.

    Apart for this being a great groove, it’s also quite nice to hear how IMperfect it is – various inaccuracies and missed notes, which to me is sorta hopeful… Listening to great bass players playing like machines can be downright frustrating sometimes. (-:

    And the 2 basic grooves here are not very difficult to play – though playing them consistently and at that speed *is* really tough. Not to mention throwing variations here and there.

    Spent two hours last night on this, and had real fun.
