The Graceland Style – 3 Years Before Graceland!

March 14, 2012 by Paul Wolfe

I’ve been listening to Graceland by Paul Simon a lot recently.? And I remembered an album – called Zulu Rock – by a French singer called Lizzy Mercier Descloux.

In particular this track – Queen of Overdub Kisses:

Note particularly the guitar, bass and drums. They are very reminiscent of the sounds that Paul Simon would use on Graceland three years later.

The trumpet solo at the end of the track sounds very Hugh Masakela too – and if you watch the famous Zimbabwe concert you’ll find Hugh Masakela in the brass section of Paul Simon’s band!? Very interesting.
